Jul. 4th, 2007 06:21 pmWow. Been a month since I last posted.
Anyways, today was a pool party barbecue that we got invited to through my parents. My goal was to make friends. I both succeeded admirably and failed horribly.
Let me explain.
So it was raining, and everyone was inside or under the overhang. Food was good, people were eager to meet the new people. Except, of course, the people my age, the four or so of them, one of whom I was already friends with, the others who were talking among themselves, and I couldn't seem to strike up a conversation with.
So some of the young boys start swimming, and it turns out the pool is heated, so it's warmer than outside. I decide, after one of the adults go in, to get in as well.
Plenty of younger kids get in the pool, after a while, and a bunch of guys around my age come...and start playing croquet. I discover it's pretty much impossible to get to talking with any of them, and end up playing and making friends with a bunch of the younger kids. Including being monopolized for about half an hour by an adorable little 3 year old named Dalia.
So I now have a whole bunch of friends 8-16 years younger than me, and no new ones my age.
On the other hand, an 11 year old, who's birthday is one day after mine, asks my mom once she is ordered out of the pool for our information, because she had such a great time and wants to meet up with me again.
So, like I said, I both succeeded and failed.
